Calmer weather is expected over the next 48 hours. However, travel disruptions could arise due to morning fog. Wet and windy conditions are also set to return later in the week. Read on for the detailed forecast.

Tuesday will begin with fine, bright weather for much of the UK. However, some parts of the southeast may experience areas of mist and fog, which are expected to lift by mid-morning. Meanwhile, the northwest of England and Wales will be cloudy with showers.

Tuesday afternoon: Bright and mild

As the afternoon progresses, most areas will enjoy bright or sunny spells. The initial heavy showers in the north and west of England and Wales will gradually move southeast, weakening as they do so, leaving behind cloudy skies in central and eastern areas.

The far north will experience a windy day with occasional blustery showers over northwest Scotland and possibly Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, winds will remain light, and it will feel mild, especially in the sunshine. Expect highs of 13°C in Aberdeen, 14°C in Belfast and Newcastle, 15°C in Manchester, Swansea and Norwich, and 16°C in London and Plymouth.

Tuesday night: Fog and rain for some

Overnight, most areas will remain dry with clear spells, though patches of fog are likely to form across central, southern and eastern parts of the UK.

Clouds will build along the Irish Sea and English Channel coasts, bringing a few showers inland. In the far northwest, thicker cloud and coastal gales will develop, along with rain approaching by dawn.

Wednesday: Largely fine

Wednesday morning will be foggy across the south and east with fog taking some time to clear, which may lead to some delays in travel. In contrast, the northwest will be cloudy and windy with spells of patchy rain.

The rest of the week: Becoming unsettled

Thursday will start mostly dry, with bright or sunny spells in many areas, although the northwest may see some drizzle. There’s a possibility of mist or fog patches in the southeast, which should clear quickly. The best of the sunshine is expected in eastern England and northeast Scotland. However, rain, heavy at times, will spread across western regions throughout the day. It will be windy in the north and west with the potential for coastal gales. After a mild night, temperatures will remain near or slightly above average.

By Friday, heavy rain will spread eastward, gradually clearing to showers in the south and west. Some persistent rain may continue in the north and west, accompanied by gusty winds and potential gales. Temperatures will start mild but will return to near-average, though it may feel cooler in the wind and rain.

The weekend: Wet and windy for many

Saturday will start with lingering rain in the northeast, which will clear by the morning, making way for a brief dry spell elsewhere before more rain moves in from the west. This rain will spread across the country throughout the day, followed by drier and brighter conditions. Strong winds will persist with temperatures remaining around average.
