Sammi Mai, a resident of England, was browsing a discount section at a Waitrose grocery store in Bath, Somerset. when a cauliflower hit her head.

A UK woman, who was grocery shopping at a local store, was hit by a large cauliflower on her head. According to Fox News, Sammi Mai was browsing a discount section at a Waitrose grocery store in Bath, Somerset, when the incident occurred.

“Suddenly a really large and heavy item fell on the top of my head, and hit my head. I fell and when I woke up, I was suffering [from a] concussion and was knocked out,” Mai told Fox. She was later diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and continues to suffer from headaches, nausea and neck pain. The vegetable fell at least four feet from the top shelf hitting her head, she said.

Two days later, Mai and her husband contacted the store’s customer service to complain about the incident. The couple was sent a £25 (approximately Rs 2,700) gift voucher along with £8 (nearly Rs 880) for a taxi fare. However, Mai found this response inadequate, especially considering the lasting effects of her injury which disrupted her holiday.

“As a loyal Waitrose customer, I feel deeply let down by their response. I didn’t use the gift card, I found it quite insulting. This ruined our holiday. I was very unwell and I’m still suffering and unable to work. I don’t know how the cauliflower fell but they should not store heavy, roundish items like that on the top shelf,” Mai told The Sun.

She also expressed frustration over how the store managed the situation at the time, saying, “The staff just put it back on the top shelf so they were not treating the incident seriously.” Despite raising her concerns, Waitrose advised that she would need to seek legal assistance to take the matter further.

“I wish I’d checked CCTV or got a witness statement on the day,” Mai added. She is reportedly considering taking legal action against the chain.

Waitrose told Fox News Digital that they were aware of the situation and confirmed the shopper had received immediate medical attention. “Our customer was seen immediately by a trained first aider at the time of the accident and we are sorry to hear she is unwell. We take customer safety incredibly seriously and have thoroughly investigated this case – but will consider any new information she wishes to share with us.”
