Ukraine says it has assassinated the head of security at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP).
The ZNPP was seized by Russian troops soon after the full-scale invasion was launched in February 2022.
Andriy Korotky went on to cooperate with the Russians, becoming head of the plant’s security.
He is alleged to have taken part in repressions and betrayed personnel with a pro-Ukrainian position.
Dramatic video images released by Ukraine‘s intelligence services show a white car turning onto a main road before suddenly exploding.
In a statement, the GUR said: “On October 4, 2024, at around 7 am in the temporarily occupied Energodar, a car carrying a war criminal, the ‘chief of security’ of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, exploded.
“Korotky is a collaborator involved in the organization and execution of war crimes and repression of Ukrainians under occupation.
“After the seizure of the ZNPP, he voluntarily cooperated with the Russian invaders, gave the Russians lists of the station’s employees with their personal data, pointing out citizens with a pro-Ukrainian position.
“He participated in the repression of nuclear power plant personnel, war crimes against civilians of the temporarily occupied Energodar.
“He constantly organized events aimed at supporting the Russian army of occupation.
“As a member of Putin’s United Russia party, he headed the so-called ‘Council of Deputies’ in Energodar.
“The GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reminds that a just retribution awaits every war criminal.
“Glory to Ukraine!”
The GUR also admitted to organising an attack on a regional office of Russia‘s FSB in Novosibirsk.
Video images released by the agency show a man breaking a window and throwing what looks like a Molotov cocktail into the building.
A fire rapidly breaks out as the building bursts into flames and the operative makes a quick escape.
Russian officials have not commented on the fire or the statement issued by Ukraine‘s GUR.
