When it comes to fast food, many people often gravitate towards the likes of McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King, but if you only ever go to one of these, you’re missing out.

There’s a whole host of other options to choose from in the UK, with numerous US and Canadian chains recently setting up shop here.

And a few places that had already launched have announced expansion plans, meaning they’ll be opening new sites nationwide soon.

Wendy’s, which has been a staple on the American fast food scene since 1969, is one of the chains that’s going to be popping up in even more locations, creating approximately 120 jobs in the process.

The chain, known for its unique square-shaped burgers and Frosty iced treat that’s a cross between a milkshake and ice cream, is opening sites in major locations across the North, the Midlands, the Southeast and London.

These restaurants will be located in Newcastle, Rutland, Colchester, and London. Some of these areas are already home to a Wendy’s, so these will be additional spots.

But that’s not all, the chain has also entered into a new development agreement with franchise organisation Khidmat Limited that will bring six brand new Wendy’s restaurants to Southwest England very soon.

Farhat Abbas, Managing Director for Khidmat Ltd. said: ‘We believe that everyone in the U.K. should have access to Wendy’s food, and we’re excited to grow with a brand that has such loyal fans across the globe. We look forward to serving the best hamburgers in Britain to hungry consumers in the Southwest soon!’

Michael Clarke, U.K. Managing Director, Europe for The Wendy’s Company, added: With more than 30 restaurants already open, these plans reflect our ambition to expand to 400 locations nationwide, enabling more people to enjoy our food.

‘We’re excited to welcome new team members and invite consumers to cheat on their usual and try Wendy’s.’

What’s on the menu at Wendy’s?

If you’ve never been to Wendy’s here’s what you need to know about the fast food chain…

Wendy’s currently has 33 locations across the UK, without the addition of these new openings.

The chain launched its initial UK site back in 2021, but this wasn’t actually the first time Wendy’s had ever been sold in the UK, with it operating here between the 80s and early 00s.

However, all of these sites shut down in 2001 due to high property costs and other overheads that meant they struggled to expand the business.

But after two decades away, Wendy’s made its triumphant return to the UK, opening in Reading in June 2021, before also launching sites in places like Camden, Guildford, and Colchester.

The menu features an ‘elite’ breakfast option according to fans on Reddit, who claim the early morning menu ‘blows McDonald’s out the water’.

One of the most iconic early morning menu items available is the ‘Breakfast Baconator’ which sees grilled sausage patties stacked with American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, a fried egg, more cheese, more bacon, and topped with cheese sauce. It certainly sounds like a real mouthful!

The regular menu also contains ‘god tier’ burgers, wraps and chicken nuggets, as well as chilli, baked potatoes, and cheese fries.

And you have to keep an eye out for exciting collabs, as Wendy’s recently teamed up with Paramount to create the Krabby Patty from SpongeBob Squarepants.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cartoon show, Wendy’s sold a Krabby Patty meal, which consisted of a burger, fries, and a limited-edition pineapple version of the Frosty.

The Krabby Patty burger featured a quarter pound of beef, two slices of melty American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and a top-secret Krabby Kollab sauce, all served on a toasted bun.
