Katie Boulter has only played four matches on the North American hard courts since heading over the Atlantic – and one of them only lasted two games after opponent Beatriz Haddad Maia retired injured.

“I would be lying if I said everything was perfect but I can count on one hand how many times you say that going into a Slam,” Boulter says.

“I made the choice going to the Olympics but I’m feeling good on the courts and have been practising a lot here and came earlier to get rhythm on the courts.”

The courts are said to be playing a little slower in New York this year and Boulter, whose game relies on her first serve and fizzing forehand, would be happier with the extra zip.

The 28-year-old Brit reached the third round at Flushing Meadows last year and is aiming to better that career-best run this fortnight.
