For those looking for a cosy pub and a cheap bottle of beer to enjoy with friends and loved ones this winter season, Brits may not need to travel far. New research has revealed which UK cities are home to the cheapest beer.

The team at Magnet Kitchens analysed 190 cities using crowdsourced data from Numbeo on the cost of a bottle of beer in cities around the world in 2024.

Researchers found a considerable price difference with the average pint costing just £1.63.

This is pretty cheap compared to the UK capital where the average pint will see you back £6.75, according to Finder.

Meanwhile, Time Out recently reported some London pubs are selling a pint for a staggering £8. The pub in question is The Nag’s Head in Belgravia.

So, in which UK cities can you find the cheapest beer?

Coventry and Nottingham are the cheapest cities in the UK to buy a beer. Both Coventry and Nottingham have been named the cheapest cities in the UK to buy a pint, averaging at just £1.63.

Coventry is known for its medieval cathedral and art galleries with one including paintings of local heroine Lady Godiva and vibrant nightlife.

Nottingham is another city located in the Midlands. The city is known for its fun student nightlife with plenty of affordable bars and pubs.

The average price of a bottle of beer in the UK was found to be £1.98 in the study, placing Coventry and Nottingham notably cheaper than the average price.

Kingston Upon Hull has been named the second cheapest city in the UK to buy a pint of beer.

The city is known for being a cultural hub and for its maritime history and offers a respectable low price for beer at just £1.65, which is way below the UK average of £1.98.

Stoke-On-Trent is third in the ranking for the cheapest UK city to buy beer. In the city, beer costs an average of £1.70, that’s four-and-a-half times cheaper than the world’s most expensive beer.

How do the UK’s beer prices fare compared to the rest of the world?

The study found the cheapest city in the world for beer to be located in Italy, in the city of Taranto, where a beer can be found for just £0.65. They also found the most expensive city in the world, Darwin in Australia, where a pint could cost you £7.48.
