Vibrant European city with warm weather named most affordable this autumn

Must read

Travellers who seek a bit of winter sun or prefer to travel to destinations with a similar climate to the UK will be able to get away this autumn. However, Brits may be stuck on where to go during this time of the year.

As travel heads towards one of the most expensive parts of the year, keeping costs as low as possible is a bonus. So, the booking website OMIO has found the cheapest locations you can jet off to from London this autumn and winter.

Using Google Flights, OMIO looked at the cheapest flights leaving from London Gatwick Airport.

The team used the following criteria to determine their results, including One person, a round trip, flights with stops included, economy class and all dates from October 1 to December 31.

OMIO then split the research into two categories inside of Europe and outside of the continent to find the best places to visit.

For Brits who fancy jetting out of Europe, then the cheapest option is New York at £394. Whilst this isn’t a destination that will give winter sun, there are some pretty big calendar dates which travellers can celebrate.

Travelling to New York in October, there’s all things Halloween in the Big Apple. Nowhere does Halloween like the USA – and November and December will have holidaymakers feeling like they’re living in a Christmas movie.

Brits who would rather stay closer to home, then for just £50 you can head to Barcelona, that’s less than a week of large pumpkin-spiced lattes from Starbucks.

Travellers who want to catch the last of the city’s good weather, then Brits will need to travel in October when temperatures average 23°C, before dropping to 15°C in December.

Looking for a winter tan? Then outside of Europe, the cheapest, sunniest options are Orlando and Miami. In October, temperatures will hit 29°C and 28°C, dropping ever so slightly to 26°C in November and then 24°C in December.

In Europe, Barcelona, Lisbon and Athens are set to get the most sunshine, with equal temperatures throughout the final months of the year.

Meanwhile, in October the average temperature is 23°C and is the best month to visit these destinations, as temperatures start to cool down to 18°C in November, dropping to 15°C in December.

As the Christmas season creeps up, Europe boasts many traditional Christmas markets, with the experience made much more festive when the temperatures are colder. Some of the chilliest destinations on the list, Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam are home to magical markets and are accessible for less than £70.

So, whether holidaygoers are chasing the sun or indulging in cold and cosy city breaks, there’s something for everyone in terms of temperature and budget.
