Gareth Barlow and Friday presenter Anna Jones were standing by to host Sky News Breakfast from 6am.

However, the show never made it to air with a pre-recorded film airing in its place while bosses scrambled behind the scenes.

But once the clip ended at 6:45am the station abruptly cut to an error message.

It read: “We apologise for the disruption to this broadcast.

“We hope to restore the transmission of Sky News shortly.”

After two hours the show returned to air as Anna Jones and Gareth Barlow managed to bring viewers the headlines as they read a script in front of them, before going off air again.

She told viewers: “A very good morning, this is Sky News, let’s get you up to date with our stop stories here today and a major global IT outage is impacting many of the world’s largest companies, including us here at Sky News.”

Sky Sports has also been affected by the technical problems.

Anchor Gareth had posted a studio snap with his colleagues and issued his own apology to viewers.

He said: “As you might have noticed, we’re not on air at the moment – tech issues that don’t seem limited to just

“@SkyNews. IT and production teams are working on a solution. See you, soon?!”

Sports presenter Jacquie Beltrao added: “We’re obviously not on air – we’re trying @SkyNews Breakfast.”

Sky News viewers left unimpressed as broadcaster debuts brand new addition

Sky News’ technical woes are believed to be as a result of a global technology outage that has plagued services from airlines to banks as Microsoft cloud services are downed.

The severe issues have crashed computers around the world leaving major banks, businesses, newsrooms and television networks all plunged into chaos.

Americans have been hit with travel chaos as all American Airlines flights have been grounded due to the outage.
