Sports Mole looks at who England could face in the last 16 of Euro 2024 as well as their possible route to the final in Berlin.

England reached the Euro 2024 knockout rounds on Monday after Spain claimed a 1-0 victory in their final group game against Albania.

Spain’s narrow win has ensured that the Three Lions will be guaranteed at least one of the fourth-best third-place spots.

Having collected four points from their first two games, England will now look to clinch top spot in Tuesday’s clash with Slovenia.

As it stands, England could still finish in first, second or third in Group C, opening up a number of different possibilities for their last-16 opponents.

Here, Sports Mole looks at who Gareth Southgate‘s side could play in the last 16 and what their route to the final may look like.

Who could England face in last 16?

If England finish top of Group C, they will face one of the third-placed nations from Group D, E and F in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday at 5pm (BST).

As it stands, the Three Lions would face the third-placed side from Group D which could be one of Austria, France or the Netherlands. Austria went into the final round of matches in third position after collecting three points from their first two matches.

If England were to finish the group in second position, they would be presented with a daunting meeting with tournament hosts Germany on Saturday in Dortmund at 8pm. Such a scenario would give England two fewer days to prepare than their opponents, who played their final group match on Sunday evening.

If they were to finish in third spot, England would go on to face either the winner of Group E or F in the last 16. At the moment, third place in Group C would go head-to-head with Group E winners and Euro 2016 champions Portugal.
