Woman finds method to cut cost of airport food as she debunks travel rumour

Must read

Once you’ve navigated airport security, the relief is palpable.

However, if hunger strikes, the prospect of shelling out a small fortune for a snack or drink, let alone a full meal, can be daunting.

For many, indulging in an airport meal and a few glasses of wine is part and parcel of the holiday experience. But for those travellers worried about their budget, the idea of bringing their own provisions might be appealing – if it weren’t for the stringent airport security measures.

Yet, one woman has debunked the “myth” that food cannot be taken on European flights, revealing that passengers are indeed allowed to bring their own packed lunches.

TikTok user Julia Ferraro shared her “favourite airport hack”, expressing her confusion over who started the “rumour that you can’t bring food through airport security”. She and her partner always opt to “find a cute sandwich shop” before their flight, allowing them to enjoy their meals onboard without breaking the bank.

She captioned her video: “Never having to pay for an overpriced three-day old sandwich at the airport is winning. This is especially useful on shorter flights that don’t serve food! We also like to bring a bag of fruits and veggies to snack on too.”

Your Europe confirms this, stating: “If you are travelling in the EU you can carry meat or dairy products with you as long as they are for your own personal consumption.”

“This also applies to plants or plant products, such as cut flowers, fruit or vegetables as long as they have been grown in an EU country and are free from pests or disease. In this context, the EU includes the 27 EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, and Switzerland.”

Commenters showered praise on the hack, with one individual sharing: “So true, you just shouldn’t bring food that has a strong smell. Those sandwiches look soo good! “.

In a humorous twist, another person quipped: “I started that rumour because people bring stinky food.”

A thoughtful user chimed in, stating: “Please check the import rules of the country you’re heading to if you’re not eating it on the plane.”
