An avid cruise ship traveller was left with a massive surprise after paying to stay in an inside cabin.
Travelling on the P&O ship Aurora, which was built in 2000, traveller Emma, who goes by @emmacruises on TikTok, paid an additional fee to choose a ‘quirky’ cabin on her travels.
The unique quirk about Emma’s room is that it is located in the middle of the cruise ship, meaning it has no access to daylight and has no windows – or the “outside world”, as she described.
She paid an additional £50 to have the choice of picking her own cabin, having heard about the ‘quirky’ cabin before her adventure.
Visiting a friend’s cabin which had a sea view, Emma described it: “His room felt spacious and bright, the decor was definitely dated but nothing was worn or damaged, which I always think is the main thing.”
When discussing the surprises in her friend’s cabin was that the bathroom came with its own tiny bath.
“I hope that my cabin would be as nice as this one, just without that balcony part,” Emma said.
Emma’s cabin, despite the absence of windows, felt huge, she said. “Normally inside cabins are quite a bit smaller,” she continued.
The headboards were located next to the door, but she explained that it made sense the more investigating she did.
Emma said: “What wasn’t normal was that we had a really random extra square of space with a sofa and a kettle. It was like having our own tiny lounge in the room, and there was so much floor space in front of it.”
Despite only being on the cruise ship for three days, the cruise ship does do multiple month-long journeys.
“I would probably miss the sun and daylight after three months but… you know,” she said.
One downfall of the cabin was that it only came with one plug socket, whereas modern cruise liners would offer more.
Emma continued: “I feel as though the value of this extra space would only increase if you were doing a longer cruise, but even still, I would book this quirky cabin again.”
The lowest price for Emma’s cruise was £299, but as Emma paid more to select her room, her total came to £349.
This included all tips, entertainment and food, based on a two-person cabin.
Her friend staying in the standard cabin with a balcony paid £499, in comparison.
People on TikTok were split over the inside cabin, with one person saying: “I would rather stay at home than have an inside cabin.”
While HukkaWolf said: “I love inside cabins so much more than balconies or windows. It’s so perfectly dark anytime, perfect sleep at any hour.”
